蒜米面包

第一次吃蒜米面包是什么时候?
记忆力再好也记不起来了,大概是小学的时候吧!但是我想我和大部分同龄朋友一样,第一次吃的蒜米面包就是Pizza Hut 必胜客的芝麻蒜米面包。虽然主角是披萨,但是蒜米面包亦往往成为竞争目标之一。
为防兄妹阋墙,妈妈总会让我们叫披萨套餐外卖时外加一份蒜米面包。

蒜米面包,如今已不再是必胜客的“专利”,仿佛只要有卖面包的地方就总会有它的踪影。近日,我疯狂地怀念这种风味儿。休息日前夕,我会网罗超市或面包店有什么适合的面包可以用来准备蒜米面包。外带几片黄瓜或番茄,浓郁的蒜香味多了一份清新的味道。

买不是很方便吗?为什么要自己烘烤这么麻烦呢?一本着副老饕的模样,朋友可能会为我解说,“新鲜烘烤的,才好吃!”其实,原因来得更简单一些。因为卖了一整袋蒜头,平日煮饭又用不了了这么多,所以就剁碎蒜米,搅和着牛油、香料和少许盐储存起来。原因就这么简单,象蒜米面包那么简单… …

Baking Time 3

I crewed up the Betty’s recipe of Blueberries muffins by adding oatmeal and additional blueberries.  “What should I do with my leftover (blueberries)?” wondering….

Blueberries milkshake is a good choice but I don’t want to finish them in one shot. Let’s find any blueberries recipe online. (Life w/o network would be so boring…)

OK, the leftover is just enough to make another batch of blueberries muffins. However, I found another recipe from the net and all the ingredients are ready at home. “Why not?… …”

It turns out quite good yet too sweet for me. I love the crunch topping with cinnamon powder. It may go better with sweet apple rather than blueberries. So…. I decided to alter the recipe for the next time baking, Cinnamon Apple Muffins, kekekeke… …

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup white sugar (1/2 cup of brown sugar)
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 egg
1/3 cup milk
1 cup fresh blueberries (1 full cup of chopped sweet apple)

Crumb Topping

1/2 cup white sugar (brown sugar)
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup butter, cubed
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

so far I do not have any impressive result… It might because of pre-mixed process has taken away the fun part. Let me try to google some recipe.

Bingo!! I found the exact recipe that Choisan used: Chinese New Year Cookies: Salted Egg Yolk Cookies

Basically, I am a salted egg fan. I hardly find any dishes with salted egg would taste awful, even the bitter gourd. Once upon a time…… bitter gourd would never lied on my tongue. However, salted egg has changed my relationship with bitter gourd (after I tried the fried bitter gourd with salted egg yolks). Since then, I dare not say that “I would never do/try… …” The story may simply change and what it takes  is simply “the RIGHT introduction”…
I did 2 mistakes, forget to buy the sesame. Oh gosh, it would not affect the overall result but it would be greater. Anyway, the weather is so hot  and I have tolerant with the cookies without sesame.
What about the second mistake? When I come back to the website and take a look on CHE-CHEH‘s cookies. Alamak… no wonder it is so soft. I forget about the egg brush at all!!! Again, it would affect much on the end result but the egg brush would bring a thin layer of glaze to the surface.
Argh…… that’s why I am not a baking person. There is not correction steps, no rewind!!!
(Ok, let’s make it perfect next time.)

Baking Time 1

I enjoy cooking very much.
This is my perfect way to distress. Chopping and slicing, like performing a solo percussion in the kitchen. On the other hand, the fire brings energy to the pan, and transfer to the ingredient. The ingredients get excited and dancing on the pan. This is how and how much I enjoy cooking.

Therefore, I have been defined myself that I am not a baking person since long long time ago, simply because of I am not patient enough. Baking process is more or less like the process of giving birth. You put all the ingredients together, and you would only know the end result at the end of everything. The excitement is not there? or not enough? May be, I like to take control of the process, dislike the unknown direction.

However, I start baking. Choisan gave me a small oven and she is my baking friend. “I am craving for chiffon cake,” I SMS-ed her. I know that I will get a YES from the other line. She knows my taste, less sugar and less sugar. The original flavors of the flour is tastier, I thought.

I try to be patient. Firstly, I tried those pre-mixed recipe from Betty Crocker. I tried the Oatmeal Choco Cookies. This is really the kindergarten level for baking. Extra oatmeal was added for less sweetness and more nutrition. I did the same thing when I was baking the premixed of Blueberries muffins. It was not turn well, the texture is a bit weird as well.

Anyway, Betty Crocker is not my preferred b’cos most of the pre-mixed are sweet. May be it is time to try my own recipe. .. …
